Darjeeling Rohini 1st Flush
(India, Black) Darjeeling produces some of the best tea on earth. First Flush
teas, picked in March/April, have a very bright floral cup and are sometimes
compared to young Beaujolais wine. More green is visible in the leaves and the
brew has more floral qualities, astringency and lightness than 2nd flush. Darjeeling
has four picking seasons and over 90 individual gardens or estates, Rohini being
one of them.
The Rohini Garden is a restored estate with most of the plantings done since
1996. Elevations range from 2700 to 5000 feet. Lately this estate is attracting
much attention. The first and second pickings, or flushes, are of particular
distinction. Darjeelings possess natural lemon flavor notes and are therefore
puckery.
