Darjeeling Makaibari 1st Flush Fair Trade Organic
(India, Black) Makaibari Tea Estate is located at Kurseong, in West Bengal. It was the world's first tea factory, established in 1859. Rajah Banerjee is the fourth generation owner, and he has blended the ethnic diversity of the seven local Makaibari villages into a harmonious entity through the use of biodynamic and sustainable agriculture. The goal of biodynamic practices is to create harmony between soil, microorganisms, plants, animals and humans. Unlike many tea gardens which grow in open sun, Makaibari retains 70% of its entire area under forest cover.
This tea is both Fair Trade and USDA organic certified. Several estate social programs are funded by the Fair Trade premium.
This is a very fairly priced, quality tea with floral notes and lemon accents. Grade is FTGFOP1.
