• Panama Elida Estate Natural - 93 points Coffee Review. Wilford Lamastus grows some of the best coffee in Panama and he is always pushing the envelope with new processes and varietals. In this case, their famous Elida Estate Reserve coffee goes through a natural processing cycle rather it being fully washed. This means that the fruit of the coffee cherry dries while surrounding the seeds, or beans, within. The drying fruit imparts a deep flavor to the beans once the dried fruit has been milled. In addition to being a terrific all purpose cup, Elida Estate Natural also makes a wonderful single origin espresso.

• Panama Kotowa Duncan Organico Microlot - First place in the Best of Panama traditional category this year. This especially fruity and delicate coffee was was harvested when over-ripe, an experimental and risky proposition for the farm. Ricardo Koyner describes the unique process this year's Don K underwent: "We left the cherries go way past ripeness, until very dark red, almost prune like. The day they were harvested, they were processed and brought back to the drying patio within a few hours." By taking this approach there is potential for fruit loss from rain and the farm lost about 30% of this coffee. Fortunately, that super-ripe fruit that remained made it all worthwhile.

• Costa Rica Cup of Excellence Finca La Cumbre de Dota - Ranked #6 in the recent 2012 Cup of Excellence with a score of 88.2, this is the second year in a row in which La Cumbre de Dota placed in the top pack. In 2011 they garnered 4th place with a score of 88.62, an impressive score for a first time entry. The small, 7.5 acre La Cumbre de Dota farm is owned and operated by Jorge Gutierrez Jimenez and his family on the land that has been passed down for generations. Flavors of cinnamon, raisin, cardamom blackcurrant. Elegant long fruity finish.
