Geisha Deluxe Sampler

The ultimate in coffee luxury. Eight ounces each of two incredible Geisha varietal coffees. Both are from Panama, where this exotic varietal has found a home, nurturing micro climates and dedicated growers. These expensive coffees are extroadinarily scarce, with only hundreds of pounds or less per lot produced. Each is freshly roasted to order, packaged in foil valve bags and presented in a thoughtfully prepared gift box with factsheets about each coffee.

For those unfamiliar with the Geisha varietal, it a seed type that is thought to have originated in Ethiopia. Price Peterson who owns Hacienda Esmeralda in Panama, experimented by planting it some years ago along with a broader group of varietals. The result was the re-discovery of a great cultivar with extreme fruitiness and floral scents and flavors, but with great balance and finesse. The Geisha has become a superstar in the coffee world, breaking auction record after record. Hacienda Esmeralda, the most famous and awarded of the Geisha growers, has garnered stunning prices for their coffees and now holds an annual private auction at which we are a buyer. We purchased what we felt to be their top lot this year, Mario San Jose. We have it along with another masterful coffee, combining for a gift like no other for a coffee aficianado in your life, or, for yourself.

We can supply your gift list of one or many.

  • Panama Hacienda Esmeralda Mario San Jose Microlot - A simply awesome cup from some of the highest grown (elevation is 1500 to 1650 meters) and most acclaimed plots on the Peterson's famous coffee farm. Only 3000 pounds of this coffee was produced. Mario San José was harvested during the month of March. The traditional, award winning Esmeralda Special comes from the area on the farm known as Mario. We felt it offered the best example of Esmeralda this year. A balanced and sweet cup, notes of jasmine, mandarin oranges, chocolate, blackberry jam, sugar cane. Elegant, crisp, fresh, sweet, stone fruit, balanced, great dried fruit attributes. Jasmine and heady scents abound. A bouquet that presents itself immediately in ground, then enlivened during brewing. The coffee has both power and delicacy. This is an example of a Geisha with washed processing.
  • Panama 'Perci Red Estate 29' Gesha Natural - We received 95 points from Coffee Review for our roast this coffee. Panama 'Perci Red Estate 29' Gesha Natural is an extremely limited production coffee lot from Ninety Plus Gesha Estates - only 150 to 300 total pounds. We received a 95 point review from Coffee Review (October 2012) for this outstanding coffee. This is also the Gesha (aka Geisha) cultivar, but an example of it dry processed. All of the fruit was dried on the husk so there is pronounced fruit penetration flavor. There was a red tinge on the green coffee, a residual of dried pulp, and in part explains its name. Admittedly, the price is expensive but the coffee is scarce and the experience unique. Coffee Review said of it: Exhilaratingly complex: crisp, lavender-like flowers, honey, roasted cocoa nib, pipe tobacco, a clean hint of brandy in aroma and cup. The acidity is lushly floral-toned and resonant, the mouthfeel syrupy but lively. Clean, sweet, lightly flavor-saturated finish.
