Ranked #6 in the recent 2012 Cup of Excellence with a score of 88.2,
this is the second year in a row in which La Cumbre de Dota placed in the top pack. In 2011 they garnered 4th place with a score of
88.62, an impressive score for a first time entry. The La Cumbre de
Dota farm is owned and operated by Jorge Gutierrez Jimenez and his family on the
land that has been passed down for generations.
The farm is made of up 2
hectares, which has produced Red Catuai varietal for the last 12 years.
It is located between the Dota and Tarrazu regions at about 6000 feet elevation. The farm lends its name to this altitude as the Spanish word cumbre
translates to summit in English. The Jimenez family takes this meaning
seriously as they always strive to improve and achieve new goals while they
cultivate their passion for coffee.
Processing is done at the Bajo del Rio
Mill where the coffee is semi-washed, meaning a small amount of mucillage is left attached to the husk, dialed in with amechanical demucillager. The coffee is then fully sun-dried.
