Costa Rica La Ponderosa Micro-Lot
Costa Rica Tarrazu La Ponderosa, a new crop 2008 microlot, is grown by the Hector Bonilla family in the La Legua de Aserri region of Tarrazu. La Ponderosa farm produces only about 50 bags of coffee a year and we have acquired about half of that production this year. The coffee is grown at about 5200 feet above sea level and is of the Typica varietal. The coffee is milled at the nearby San Marcos de Tarrazu wet mill owned by Don Mayo. It is 100% sundried.
In our blind cuppings of over twenty different new crop estate Costas, La Ponderosa was our favorite; we rated it 90 points.
Cup Characteristics: In the cup, La Ponderosa is very delicate and refined, with hints of tart apple and citrus. Sweet and clean, it possesses milk chocolate body and a dry, winey finish. Very well balanced.
