Cup Characteristics: Powerful flavor concentration. Highly caramelized, nearly carbonized tones. Intense, rugged, robust. Long finish. This darkest of roasts is not for the faint of heart.
As coffee roasts it gets progressively darker and goes through a number of transformations which affect its appearance and flavor. At the earliest and lighter stages of roasting the individual tastes and brightness of a coffee is most pronounced. As the darkness increases the roast flavor itself begins to dominate becoming less subtle. Italian Roast is our very darkest with the most strongly perceived flavor.
Best suited to Southern Italian stovetop espresso makers. Our Colombia Supremo is used for this roast. Its brightness and hardness make it ideal for this style of roasting.
